DAVID RHODES
David was the society's chairman for over five years. A fine feat for anyone, especially when you consider the number of plays David has directed, acted in, and produced. Added to that he has been at almost every get-in during that time - along with his very trendy dark blue boiler suit! David joined the society to play Sir Nigel in "Sleeping Beauty" and since those hazy, long-ago days he has performed in over 15 shows! He had a wonderful time playing Teddies in both "Trivial Pursuits" and "The Ghost Train", and to this day we remain haunted by his laugh! He has also played half of the pantomime comedy duo twice, as Birdseye in "Dick Whittington" and Steak in "Dracula the Panto." His worst role was that of Arden Rencelaw, in "Down with Demon Drink" - the problem with this role had something to do with his appearance not happening until page 52! Although, it has been suggested that it might be because Rencelaw quite forcefully advised against the demon liquor and David is fond of the odd tipple. His attempted three days of drinking on the Cornwall trip will testify to this! David was the one who was responsible for introducing culture to the society, through the direction of "A Midsummer Night's Dream". He also sang a Handel aria at the 2002 Talent Night. David has also appeared in Freeflow's production of "Much Ado About Nothing" which was performed in-the-round, and rather daringly, outside! David's other plays include "Habeas Corpus," "Farndale...Macbeth," "Cinderellium," "Aladdin," and "Inspector Drake's Last Case." David has also been able to put his knowledge of Russian to good use, by playing Mr Scoblowski, the enigmatic Russian Music teacher in "Daisy Puls it Off." He even went to Yorkshire to perfect his accent for Jarvis in "A Chorus of Disapproval." |
